The morning after pill, also called Plan B is considered Emergency contraception. It can be taken up to 5 days after the "incident" and works by thickening the mucosal lining of the cervix thus preventing fertilization from occurring. The ingredients are usually Progestin which is the same as is in most birth control pills but in a much stronger concentrated dose.
The abortion pill is also known as RU486 or mifepristone/misoprostol can be taken up to 56 days after the missed period and terminates a pregnancy. Mifepristone ends pregnancy by blocking the hormones necessary for maintaining a pregnancy and Misoprostol causes the uterus to contract and empty.
