There are tons of reasons why a strict no fat or low fat diet can be detrimental. I will list one reason and let you all fill in the rest:

Many of our essential vitamins are fat soluble. Being too low fat makes you deficient in these vitamins because your body is unable to process them and use them.

Thank You, Dr. Jason Alviene.

The fat soluble essential vitamins are:

A, D, E, and K.

Which is why skim milk fortified with vitamins A & D makes very little sense. Drink at least 1% milk, if you drink milk at all

My personal opinion is dieting doesn't work. When people go on "a diet" they limit essential nutrients that are needed for a healthy body. Typically, when a person goes on a "low fat diet" they choose foods with lables that read "low fat" but the fat has been replaced with extra sugars and carbs and contain little to no protien or fiber. This causes unhealthy spikes in blood sugar levels and can lead to sugar highs followed by crashes leaving us craving more sugar and carbs. What a cycle! Do not be afraid of moderate amounts of saturated fats and the cholesterol in your eggs. These fats are needed to utilize fat soluble vitamins, make hormones and preseve the integrity of our cells.

A superficial (in more than one way) point here: having healthy fats in your diet, such as Omega-3 fatty acids, will allow you to have shinier hair, softer skin, and stronger and longer nails. This, I'm sure, particularly appeals to the ladies.
